The black hand of corporate fascismMost grain farmers I know support our beef and pork guys when the market turns against them. Now the organizations representing these livestock farmers (see "Corn's Big Gamble," Better Farming, November, 2005) turn their guns on corn producers who, like other grains and oilseeds growers, are being bankrupted by a corrupt grain market and illegal dumping of U.S. corn into Canada, and call on countervail action as a last resort. We would expect such an attack from urban-based corporate end users, such as alternate fuels and milling giants. But when it comes from farm-based groups, it leaves me sick and disgusted. No wonder governments laugh at us!What we are really seeing here is the black hand of corporate fascism, reaching down through the leadership of beef and pork, to grip the throat of corn producers and choke the life out of us! We can never win the battle of fair returns to all primary producers by continuing with this cannibalistic dance. Beef and pork producers should be ashamed of the position their organizations have taken and work with grains and oilseeds for a resolution that is fair to all sectors. To do otherwise is only cutting your own throat. Robert W Johnston Write to usWe welcome the views of all readers.
