Enthusiasm is there for high school ag programs
I read your very interesting January cover story, High Skills in
the High Schools. (That was after spending some time at the Grey
Bruce Farmers' Week with a display to promote our program.)
The enthusiasm is definitely there for the agriculture programs such as
the Huron Perth one and ours, but we need to keep getting the information
out there.
I agree with John Hyde from Ontario Agri-Food Education that we need to
get the agriculture community behind this to encourage boards to maintain
programs such as these.
I also agree with the comment in your Behind the Lines section that we need to include
some information on the law. We hope to do that in the other curriculum
that we are developing in semester two (in our "Business segment
of the course).
I hope that Better Farming will continue to
talk about these programs to encourage other boards to take part. I'm
a true believer in supporting agriculture and will continue to do my part
in encouraging people to get involved.
