The decision was made following a July hearing into “the appropriate role of Ontario Pork,” a Commission news release said. A group of pork producers and industry stakeholders had requested the hearing.
Other related decisions included:
- the commodity organization will represent and collect license fees from producers of all classes of pigs, including weaners and breeding stock;
- it will continue to market pigs for producers on a fee-for-service basis;
- Ontario Pork will continue its role in addressing pork industry issues
- Its board will deliver a new structure and governance model to the commission by Dec. 1.
