Extensive volunteering and a commitment to his community have landed Frank Palen the Ontario Pork Congress (OPC) 2013 Industry Leadership award.
The annual award is presented to individuals who have, according to the Congress’ award nomination form, achieved a career in Ontario’s pork industry, helped improve it and shown a commitment to community involvement.
“We gather candidates by soliciting all parts of the pork sector for nominations,” says Lori Moser, Congress managing director. “Normally we receive nominations from individuals, but Frank was nominated by all seven members of OPC’s executive committee.”
A Congress press release issued Monday notes Palen, purchasing and special projects manager for Kenpal Farm Products Inc., won the award because he has committed his time to the annual event for over 25 years. During that time, he has also served other agricultural organizations and local sport groups.
“Frank has done many things, such as helping to lead our exhibits committee. They’re responsible for planning, setting up, and mapping the locations of all OPC exhibitors every year,” says Moser.
The award was presented at the Congress’ general meeting in Stratford on Monday. BF
