Ontario government proposes more water legislation

Six environmental groups banding together does not give the great lakes environmental act any more credibility. Recently Peter Van Loan announced 29 million dollars for Lake Simcoe cleanup (only).

This was after a 2005, 30 million dollar cleanup that managed to clean up 15 t of phosphate in five years or a whole 3 t per year! Wow 1 tandem load of phosphate and we are willing to double the money and do it again. Much of the source is geese (wild federal ones) that manage to squeeze out more than a cow.

Most often Beaverton beaches are closed due to prevailing winds driving pollution to the east shore.
Livestock numbers surrounding Lake Simcoe are well below 1/2 of the numbers of 10 yrs ago and yet the phosphate counts are near steady depending on rainfall that stirs up deposited material long since settled to the bottom.

Agriculture gets blamed and then expected to source offset any and all loading as the guilty offending party.

In a time of drastic financial restrain you would think a little more science could be spent on fiscal responsibility and reasonable financial results.
