Grain Farmers of Ontario has hired a resident chef to tell the “field to fork story,” says spokesperson Meghan Burke.
Jonathan Goodyear, who made it to the grand finale of Top Chef Canada this year, is very committed to the farming industry and interested in learning more, she notes. “It seemed like a natural fit.”
Goodyear, the executive chef at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, has been appointed Grain Farmers’ resident chef for a one-year term. He has developed 10 original recipes featuring grains and presented two of them on a television segment recently. As the recipes become available after Goodyear presents them they will be posted on the Grain Farmers' Growing Rural Connections blog. The blog will also feature updates on Goodyear’s appearances.
Goodyear will be at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto from November 1 to 10. He’ll participate in a cooking contest plus do food demonstrations at the Grain Farmers’ exhibit. He will be at other events during the year to communicate “the food story,” Burke says. BF
