Ted Oke, an Exeter area cash-crop farmer who has worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and in the banking sector, has been named manager of Ontario Swine Improvement (OSI).
Oke, who graduated with a B.Sc. in ag-business from the University of Guelph in 1988, has been an OSI director since 2007. In 2012, he was vice-chair.
As general manager, Oke will be working with the OSI board and staff as well as dealing directly with producers, genetic suppliers and industry partners.
In a news release, Oke says, “as a regional centre for the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement, OSI is positioned well for identifying and improving the very best in swine genetics in Canada as well as in the global marketplace.” Oke took up his new position on Jan. 7. BF
