Bacon in your underwear, anyone?

Friday, April 8, 2016

If you live for the taste and smell of bacon, look no further than J&D's Foods, Inc. But don't expect real bacon.

The Seattle company, founded in 2007 by entrepreneurs Justin Esch and Dave Lefkow, first gained notoriety for its bacon salt, a kosher vegetarian seasoning that, surprisingly, contained no bacon.

In the years that followed came bacon-flavoured mayonnaise, lip balm and pillowcases with a scent guaranteed to make you salivate for pork bellies in your sleep.

But the most unusual product to date has to be one which debuted in November – bacon-scented underwear.

The bright red underwear that flirtily flaunts the words "Stop and smell the" with an image of bacon comes in both men's and women's versions and costs a mere US$19.99. "It's like a hot frying pan in your pants," says a description on the company's website.

The company claims technology developed by NASA embeds the scent into the ink on the underwear and it lasts through multiple washings.

"They were a very popular gift item and stocking stuffer" over Christmas, observed a company spokesperson via telephone. She declined to give her name, but noted the product has sold out "multiple times" since introduced. BP
