USA an ethanol exporter Tuesday, November 1, 2011 Last year, because of an unsteady supply in Brazil, the United States became an ethanol exporter for the first time, sending 1.3 billion litres abroad. That's according to report released Aug. 30 from Washington DC based WorldWatch Institute. Don't expect that trend to continue. Brazil plans to build 103 new sugar cane mills, increasing production capacity by 66 per cent by 2019. The United States and Brazil are the world's largest ethanol producers. The European Union produced 53 per cent of all the biodiesel in 2010. In the United States, the target of 950 million litres of ethanol from cellulosic sources has been reduced to 250 million under the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act.
