Goat meat and milk finding favour in North America Friday, May 1, 2015 Goat meat – more typically found in ethnic cuisine than in traditional restaurants – has experienced a surge in popularity in North America, Reuters reports.Restaurants are turning to goat as a cheaper alternative to beef. Dan Romanoff, executive VP of meat distributor Nebraskaland, told Reuters: "I can buy goat meat for $2.75 a pound. Beef is $3.50 or more." Goat meat is also more popular due to a rising number of new citizens in the United States and Canada who use goat in their traditional cuisine, including Middle Eastern and South American.Goats are not popular just for their meat. Modern Farmer says that the United States has seen a 15 per cent increase in goat milk sales since 2007. Canada has also benefited. Dairy goat farmer and cheese-maker Bruce Vandenberg of Lindsay, Ont., told The Western Producer that Ontario produced 35 million litres of goat milk in 2013, compared to two million in 1990.
