Better Farming wins second award

Monday, July 7, 2008

“Winning a bronze in the TABPI competition is a great honour,” says Better Farming’s managing editor Robert Irwin. “It’s very rewarding to be recognized for the hard work we do and the high standards that we reach for every day.”

The story was written jointly by Irwin and fellow editors Mary Baxter and Don Stoneman.

The judges commented favourably on Better Farming’s December 2007 cover story entitled “Faith In The Pigeon King, But Where Is The Market?” giving it an “A+” rating. "This feature presents a compelling investigation that the magazine undertook to look at a possible Ponzi scheme. The story is well-written and examines all angles of the Pigeon King. I think that this feature did more for the industry than any other feature entered in the contest. Great job with reporting. Great job with writing and editing.”

AgMedia Inc, an independent publishing company in Ontario publishes Better Farming magazine and a sister publication, Better Pork.

Cleveland Ohio-based Trade, Association and Business Publications International is a world wide organization dedicated to bringing together editors of English language publications world wide and encouraging a common dedication to editorial ethics, and excellence.”

This year’s competition drew 700 entries from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Ireland, Lebanon, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

The awards are posted at www.tabpi.org.

In late May the Canadian Association of Journalists awarded Better Farming writers the top magazine award for investigative reporting for the same story. BF
