Canadian company gets go-ahead to market cattle vaccine in the United States Monday, February 4, 2008 by BETTER FARMING STAFF The license will allow the company access to the U.S. market on the conditions that at least one step of the manufacturing process takes place in the United States and the vaccine isn't given a trademark name.Last year the USDA put the company's licensing application on hold because of differing conclusions concerning field tests.The vaccine has been available for limited use in Canada since last year but can only be obtained through a veterinarian, who must file applications for its use with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.In December the company, which specializes in animal and human health products, received both provincial and federal funding to scale up production of the vaccine. “This is a large step forward for the E. coli 0157:H7 vaccine,” said Grame McRae, the company's president and CEO, in a news release.
