Federal money provided for soybean marketing Monday, March 12, 2012 by BETTER FARMING STAFFThe federal government is giving more than $88,000 to the Canadian Soybean Council (CSI) and the Canadian International Grains Institute (CIGI) to create a trade development strategy aimed at boosting soybean sales, especially in Japan, the European Union and Southeast Asia.“These regions of the world are key to the growth of our value-added soybean industry here in Ontario," says Barry Senft, CEO of Grain Farmers of Ontario.In a news release, the government said the money will help the CSC and CIGI to carry out trade missions, participate in international trade shows and welcome incoming industry delegations to Canada. It will also support global market growth and brand building.Canada exports more than $1 billion worth of soybeans annually. The $88,000 is being provided by Ottawa’s AgriMarketing Program.
