Flour mill planned for Guelph site Tuesday, December 13, 2011 by BETTER FARMING STAFFHorizon Milling G.P., a partnership formed by Cargill and CHS Inc. in 2002, has announced plans to build a new flour mill in Guelph on a recently purchased 27-acre site. Horizon Milling president Dan Dye says the complex “will incorporate the latest technologies in the industry and design” when it is complete in about three years. The facility will primarily serve Horizon Milling’s food processing customers in Southwestern Ontario and will source grain “primarily” from farmers in Eastern and Western Canada. The project, expected to create 15 to 20 new jobs, is expected to increase Horizon Milling’s Canadian production by up to 30 per cent. Cargill communications manager in Winnipeg, Brigitte Burgoyne, said the company has not completed its engineering process to determine how much grain the facility will use.Horizon’s Canadian operations include former Robin Hood flour mills in Montreal and Saskatoon, both acquired from J. M. Smucker Co. in 2006. A Port Colborne mill obtained in that deal was shut down in 2008. BF Food price increases expected to slow There's no escaping pesticide residue, claim organic leaders
