Grain Farmers of Ontario yield challenge winners get cash, trips Thursday, December 6, 2012 by BETTER FARMING STAFFGetting a great yield can keep paying dividends, especially if you rank in the Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) winter wheat, spring wheat and soybean yield challenge.The winners of the 2012 challenge were honoured at a banquet held Dec. 6 in Ingersoll.First place in the winter wheat challenge went to Ray VanDerMolen of VanDerMolen Farms Inc., Jarvis. His yield was 144.41 bushels an acre using Pioneer Hi-Bred 25R40 seed.First place in the spring wheat yield challenge was taken by Del Cressman of Hasta Farms Ltd., Listowel, who got 112.87 bushels to the acre with C&M Seeds Wilkin. Each first place winner got a $1,500 prize.Grand prize winners in the non-IP division of the soybean challenge were Don and Jean Giffin of Blenheim. They got a yield of 82.87 bushels an acre with Pioneer Hi-Bred 93Y05.Raube Beuerman, of Dublin, came in first in the IP division with a yield of 77.93 bushels per acre using SeCan OAC Wallace seed.Each soybean grand prize winner gets a trip for two to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky. Winners in each soybean division and each zone went home with a cash prize of $10 times their yield in bushels.
