Group calls for Ontario-wide Johne's prevention strategy Thursday, October 30, 2008 by SUSAN MANNThe proposal, being developed by now by the Johne’s Industry Working Group, should be launched sometime next year, says George MacNaughton, Dairy Farmers of Ontario production and regulatory compliance director. He’s also a member of the working group, which includes representatives from government, breed associations, dairy veterinarians and other industry organizations.The group is looking to get funding from the federal Growing Forward initiative. The 12-year program is expected to cost $24 million.Johne’s is a disease that reduces milk production in cattle. In Ontario it’s estimated that 30 to 50 per cent of dairy herds have one infected cow.
