Hensall Co-op buys Clinton feed mill Wednesday, October 28, 2015 by BETTER FARMING STAFFHensall District Co-operative (HDC) has announced the acquisition of Fleming Feed Mill and Elevator operations in Clinton.The sale was announced in a news release issued by the Hensall-based co-op on Friday. The release does not indicate a date when the deal closes or the financial details of the transactions.Earl Wagner, Hensall’s CEO, did respond to a BetterFarming.com request for an interview but was unable to do an interview before this story’s deadline.The release says the Clinton operation was established in 1967 by the late Bill Fleming and has been updated through the years. At the time of sale, the operation was owned by Fleming’s widow, Marg, and sons Ian and Jim. Rick McGlynn has been the feed mill’s manager.The feed mill currently has the capacity to process more than 30 metric tonnes per hour; the elevator can receive wheat, corn and crusher soybeans.According to its website and news release, farmer-owned HDC maintains several elevators and feed mills mostly in Huron, Bruce, Grey, Perth, Middlesex and Lambton Counties. The co-op also has energy and crop products divisions as well as global and local transport and logistics services. In 2010, the federal government’s Rural and Cooperatives Secretariat ranked Hensall District Co-operative as the 10th largest non-financial cooperative in Canada (based on revenues) with revenues of $333.7 million, assets of $135 million, 4,486 members along with 299 full time and 79 part time employees.
