Just in time for prom: KFC chicken corsages

Friday, June 6, 2014

Marketing genius? Or just a greasy gimmick? KFC has teamed with Nanz & Kraft of Louisville, Ky., to hook up two of America's loves: prom and fried chicken.

A corsage kit costs $20 plus shipping and comes with fresh or silk baby's breath and a $5 KFC gift card, "so you can customize your corsage with Original Recipe, Extra Crispy or Kentucky Grilled Chicken. Whichever best matches her dress," the Nanz & Kraft website reads.

The Daily News reports that 15 out of the 100 available battered broiler bouquets had been sold within the first few days, and the promotional video was viewed over 260,000 times in the first five days.

Is this the smell of desperation? Parent company Yum! Brands' website acknowledges KFC "under performed" in the United States in 2013, with unit sales (4,491 million) down 2.75 per cent from 2012. BF
