Not-so-happy California cows Monday, August 9, 2010 If you're going to film a commercial about happy California cows, do it in California, OK folks? That's the message the California State Assembly sent in late May when it ordered state agencies, commissions and departments to spend promotional funds on California in California. The metaphorical cow dung hit the ventilation fan after the California Milk Advisory Board sent a production crew to New Zealand to make 10 spoof commercials claiming to interview New Zealand cows that were auditioning to become happy California cows. Never mind that it was a California crew that travelled there. According to the Fresno Bee, Democrat Assemblyman Ted Lieu proposed that promotional funds "should be spent in California, to employ California workers, support the economy and provide jobs."The board said it was cheaper to film abroad. (Oops. Wrong answer. Why are California cows more expensive to film? Do they belong to an actor's union or something?) BF A taste of its own medicine for HSUS Cat, 1; consumers, 0
