Fighting for gestation stalls against HSUS Sunday, June 7, 2015 As more companies turn to gestation-stall free pork, one former investigator from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is speaking up against the practice, Pork Network reports.Working with HumaneWatch.org, part of the Center for Consumer Freedom, a former undercover investigator for HSUS has made a video supporting the use of gestation stalls. In it, the investigator, who remained anonymous to prevent backlash from the HSUS, talks about how the pregnant sows would fight and injure each other if they weren't in stalls. He also said that HSUS was pushing to ban gestation crates "because of what it would do to the pig farming industry." He added that "objectively, HSUS should be for gestation crates if they're honestly, truly for animal welfare."More videos have come forward, including one released on April 20 showing the former investigator explaining how HSUS training demonizes farmers before the "investigator" visits farms, and also how investigators are told how to characterize the scene of a young animal learning to walk and stumbling as the result of being "malnourished or kept in hobbles the whole time." The five minute long video is available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmXoYF36uAg.
