Mayoralty race is for laughs Saturday, August 8, 2015 Lawyer Michael Ewing has entered his pet Giggles the Pig into the mayoral race in Flint, Michigan, The Huffington Post reports.Ewing started the campaign for Giggles after reading about the candidates and political blunders surrounding the election. According to the Flint Examiner, a city clerk gave candidates the wrong deadline to file their entry, causing them all to miss the date and leaving no names on the ballot. As such, the candidates – who include two convicted felons, one of whom served a 19-year sentence for murder – would have write-in campaigns only.Ewing told The Huffington Post that, while reading about the situation, he turned to Giggles and said, "You would make a better candidate than these people." This led Ewing to start a campaign for Giggles, whose qualifications – according to her Facebook page – include no criminal history, never having missed an important deadline and support for the police. "We're not trying to make the politics in Flint look bad," Ewing told The Huffington Post. "The fact is, Flint won't look bad unless they elect these people."
