Cattlemen's town hall meeting to take place in London

Monday, June 24, 2013

by SUSAN MANN

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association is combining its semi-annual meeting with an annual town hall meeting in London later this summer.

Gina Teel, the association’s communications manager, says the town hall meeting is a great opportunity for local beef farmers to meet the cattlemen’s president and staff “and be able to ask some questions face-to-face.”

The town hall meeting is one of three being held this year. The other two are in Alberta.

Teel says they are sponsored by Farm Credit Canada and have been held since 2011. They’re always held at various locations throughout Canada.

The meeting will cover a wide range of topics, such as current trade matters including country of origin labelling in the United States, an update on Canadian beef cattle traceability, the latest market analysis from Canfax, beef cattle research, the importance and future of youth in the beef industry, and the cattlemen’s global outlook on beef production. There will also be an opportunity for beef producers to ask questions.

“We give producers an idea of the types of work the CCA (Canadian Cattlemen’s Association) does on their behalf and also updates to that work,” she says.

Cattlemen’s runs the town hall meetings in partnership with the provincial cattle associations, which help with planning and running it.

The semi-annual meeting is on from Aug. 13 to 15, while the town hall meeting is on Aug. 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. Both events are being held at the Best Western Plus Lamplighter Inn and Conference Centre on Wellington Road. BF
