Federal budget addresses rural broadband, agricultural research

Increasing the ability of farmers to access the internet is a two-edged sword - for example, it will allow even the most obtuse dairy farmer to get information pointing out just how badly supply management screws everybody.

Therefore, when Reint-Jan Dykstra of the Dairy Farmers of Canada complains that DFC is going to "have to lean on" the feds more, he ignores the obvious fact that better information access in the rural community is going to cause supply management to "lean on" itself.

Supply management is propped up by a cult of mis-information and paranoia - rural broadband access can only serve to skewer it.

Farm groups should, therefore, be wary of what they ask.
