Where,s the jobs at the fast food joints? Let the rest of the Ontario people see where the jobs are and not keep it a secret for the chosen few. Why don,t the goverments of Canada and Ontario have a website where we can go to look for jobs and posts jobs that are avaliable. Make it plain and simple so everyone can look and use the website.

Where are the JOBS??

We as agriculture buisnesses have to learn from other job markets. Offering such things as a 40 hr work week, benifits, time and a half for stats and a safe and friendly work enviroment. The danish pork industry have learned this and it shows in both the cost of production and devotion from employees. Couple things that have worked for me when interviewing potetial employees are
ask about pets. People with pets have a desire to care for something.
ask what they need to make per year and work with them to meet that target while maintaining your budget.
Know that for 99% of the emplyees it is just a job and not a lifestyle. Give them the best work enviroment you can and let them have a life.
Keep asking the employees once you got them what they need to do there job better and get it. It will boost there work both mentally and physically.

Remember "the farm is a wheel and the staff the moter"

The farm buisness must have a labour budget in place in order to hire and pay competativly in the ontario market place and within the geographical location. ( one county might be in a different pay schedule then another) Without the #'s going into the job hunt you will not recruit the best staff or not keep them.

As a manager of a large primary meat production facility we start pay at the average wage in the county (appr $15/hr for general labour and work up from there).

My staff have to make a living and by looking after them they will look after our needs.

This is my rambling. print what you like.

Manager of a 2500hd sow facility
