Northern producer wants slaughter rules changed

A Vermillion Bay farmer’s closest custom slaughter poultry plant is in Manitoba — and provincial laws prevent him from using it

There are plenty of people who want to buy locally raised chickens in North Western Ontario. I am having a terrible time finding someone who raises organic chickens, kills them and sells them to the public. Farmers have no place to take the chickens to be killed that is provincially licensed which would allow them to sell the chickens to the public. Surely the government could find someway to allow these small farmers to raise, kill and sell their chickens. North Western Ontario deserves to be able to eat great chicken!

Is there any update on this issue?
