The Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission will hold a hearing next month to consider an Ontario Independent Poultry Processors request to be part of a chicken advisory committee.
The hearing will be held on Aug. 30 starting at 10 a.m. in Guelph.
The Chicken Industry Advisory Committee was formalized in January. It’s currently made up of representatives from the commission, Chicken Farmers of Ontario and the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors.
Chris Horbasz, Chicken Farmers director of policy and industry relations, says most industries under the commission have industry advisory committees. The chicken committee does “typically what an industry advisory committee would do,” he says.
Chicken Famers has received the notice of the hearing, Horbasz says. But the organization doesn’t yet have a position on the independent poultry processors request.
“We’ve been given a certain period of time to respond as to whether or not we want to be involved.” BF
