Pork processor ceases operation

I read some where this week that they are looking for pigs to process out west .

This plant in Mitchell seems to have a history of failed ventures . Was this also not the 3P plant at one time also ?

Not to piss off the anti SM group but more to make a point that there is a good reason for looking deeper into the success of SM in this country and the reasons as to why and how it keeps farmers and processors profitable . One of the main reasons is likely that there is a distinct difference in farming , food , processing and a million other things in this country that we just can't compete with that makes us non competive on a global market . Whether it be unions , wages and sky rocketing hydro rates , it all has to come from some ones pocket somewhere in the supply chain . Don't forget the fact that there are cheap imports for the non SM products that are competition for the consumer dollars at the grocery store . We currently have pork and beef at all time record high price's and soon wont have any processing left in Ontario because we are driving them out all while our population keeps growing , the consumers are here and the store shelves are still stocked . So no one sees the problem .

So one more time we have farmers who are getting Gov help to produce raw products that we can't afford to process here to get , keep and capture the processing dollars and jobs from . There is really some thing wrong with the system . Too many regulations , to many highly paid gov employees that are not worth their salt that don't know jack about any thing other than trying to keep their job .

Export markets are a good thing if every one in that market value chain is profitable . The same also goes for the markets here at home .

Editor's note: The Mitchell plant was not associated with 3P. It was associated with now defunct Acre-T Farms.
