Government contemplates solution for 5,000 farmers who can’t access government programs because of decertification of general farm organizations

I would be a lot simpler if farmers registered with OMAFRA - period.

Then farmers should have the option to join a GFO.

The present process is backwards.

The provincial agricultural ministry is worried that around 5000 farmers can't get a farm registration number.

That number makes absolutely no sense whats so ever.

There are about 40000 farmers all together in Ontario and most have had a farm registration number for decades.

To deadline to apply for a farm registration number is MARCH 1.

How on earth can 5000 new farmers be on a list this late in time to register long after the deadline?

I don't see any creditability in the governments accounting/

i doesnt make sense that 5000 farmers june 1 are not registered

Its all a bunch of crock.Different farm grops so there is a pile of people making a pay cheque , instead of a few. Farmers would do a lot better if they had a one strong voice, not alot of little voices that is heard by no one.Ther,s to many greedy people in the farming place today that they look at themself and would step on anybody that gets in their way. Where is the value of honest living gone too in Canada.

Glad to see other think the same as I

Is the government messing around with this process to remind the GFO's who is "boss"? Could be that McGuinty is pissy with the 3 GFO's in that all have varying degrees of issues with how IWT developments are carried out. OFA does not want the slots taken out of horse racing facilities. OSPCA troubles, etc.
Do away with memberships and the orgs will likely die. Then poof no opposition to anything they do. Problem solved. Just saying.....

Stable funding has been around for ....likely less than 10 years. The GFO's have been around for a lot longer, they aren't going to disappear. Is the gov't reminding them who is boss? Of course they are and the gov't wants to keep it that way. The gov't would gain no benefit from the GFO's disappearing, but keeping them on a short leash and pulling the strings is certainly to the government's liking.

As one of the 4 people who worked to bring down the house of cards the NFU was living in, i can assure farmers i will once again make sure the NFU does not pull a fast one on the Tribunial as they have in the past. The NFU clearly knew what they were doing was not right, my self and 3 other directors resigned over it, the NFU is mostly run by none farmers or people pretending to be farmers, they really dont represent a lot of farmers at all even as a past president of the NFU i didnt realize how corrupt it was from with in until i was deep in side and blew the top off it all, there is only a hand full of people running the show from behind the scenes and most of them are out in western Canada. it is better to request a refund then it is to support a group that cant be honest. The NFU in Ontario makes up nearly 70% of all the NFU members in Canada . Yet its head office and all of its staff are based in western Canada. I learned it only takes a few people to rail road an organization and fool thousands, i could not be fooled and i could not be silenced, this is why i am no longer a member of the NFU. its a shame they allowed them self's to be deceptive and miss guide the tribunial it has come back to kick them in the ass, it all so easily could of been avoided had they only listened to the directors who resigned and did the right thing be honest but those chose to let their ego's stand in the way of doing the right thing.
This should be lesson for all of us to always do what is right you will never regret it in the end.
