A2 milk is coming to America

Friday, June 6, 2014

What the heck is A2 milk, you say? For those who don't know, A2 is a protein found in the milk from most Jersey and Guernsey cows. A recent Mother Jones article explains that, several thousand years ago in some European herds, the A2 protein mutated into A1, the protein found in the milk of the high-producing Holstein cows used in the majority of North American and European milk production.

A2 proponents' research suggests A1 milk is hard to digest and causes health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, autism and even lactose intolerance. Of course, there's also research that suggests none of the above is accurate. Remind anyone of another milky debate?

A2 Corporation, which has marketed A2 milk in New Zealand and Australia for more than a decade (where it accounts for eight per cent of sales), is planning expansion into the U.S. market. BF
