A Niagara Escarpment winery is the most recent recipient of a federal loan to help boost its production. Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery will use the money, $97,000 under the federal AgriProcessing initiative, to buy and install a new high-speed bottling and labelling line to double its capacity.
According to the company’s website, it grows more than 80 acres of grapes near Beamsville and maintains long-term contracts with other growers.
In a federal news release Norm Beal, the company’s president, states that the funding “will have a significant impact on our ability to achieve major improvements to food safety, productivity and competitiveness.” Beal could not be immediately reached for comment.
The federal program provides businesses with loans of up to $2 million or 50 per cent of costs towards the acquisition of equipment to improve production.
